Quick-Step has been making laminate in Belgium since the 1990s, holds patents on the Uniclic locking system most other laminates have since copied, and consistently sits at the higher end of quality without crossing into engineered-timber pricing. If you’re weighing Quick-Step against cheaper laminate options, this guide shows exactly where the extra money goes — and whether it’s worth it for your home.

Why Quick-Step sits at the top of the market

Before getting into individual ranges, it helps to understand why Quick-Step pricing sits above most other laminate brands.

  • Uniclic locking system. Quick-Step invented click-lock laminate as we know it. The Uniclic joint is tighter, stronger and more reliable than many cheaper imitations — which matters for water resistance at the seams and long-term gap-free performance.
  • Higher AC ratings as standard. Most Quick-Step ranges are AC4 or AC5, holding up to heavy residential and even light commercial traffic. Cheaper laminates often sit at AC3.
  • HydroSeal water-resistance treatment. Many ranges include a treated edge with a higher water-resistance rating than standard laminate. Still not waterproof like hybrid flooring, but far better with quick spills than typical laminate.
  • European manufacturing. Tighter quality control, more consistent decor printing and better long-term colour stability under UV exposure.
  • Long warranties. 25 years on most ranges, lifetime on some.

The Quick-Step ranges, explained

— The entry point

Quick-Step Classic

The entry point into the Quick-Step range. Classic is an 8mm laminate with the core Uniclic locking system, designed for normal residential use. A strong choice if you want a recognised brand and reliable performance, but don’t need the wider planks or extra water resistance of the higher ranges.

Best for

  • Bedrooms, living rooms and other moderate-traffic areas
  • Renters and DIY-friendly installations
  • Homeowners who want Quick-Step quality without the premium price

Key specs

  • Thickness: 8mm  Â·  Wear rating: AC4  Â·  Warranty: 25 years residential
  • Plank size: standard plank format
Price $35–$45 /m² supply

Quick-Step Eligna

Eligna is the most popular range we sell. It’s an 8mm laminate that adds bevelled edges and HydroSeal water-resistance treatment to the Classic specification — a more refined look and better real-world durability. The sweet spot for most homeowners: meaningfully better than entry-level laminate, without pushing into premium pricing.

Best for

  • Living areas, kitchens (with normal water care) and busier rooms
  • Homeowners who want the look of timber with bevelled-edge plank definition
  • Open-plan homes where you want one floor running through multiple rooms

Key specs

  • Thickness: 8mm  Â·  Wear rating: AC4  Â·  Warranty: 25 years residential
  • Bevelled edges on all four sides
  • HydroSeal water-resistance treatment
Price $45–$55 /m² supply
— Wider, more textured

Quick-Step Impressive

Impressive is the natural step up from Eligna. Same 8mm Uniclic platform, but with deeper surface texture (embossed-in-register grain that matches the printed decor), wider plank formats and the same HydroSeal treatment. For homeowners who want the wider, more textured look without stepping up to 12mm thickness.

Best for

  • Living areas where you want a more pronounced timber look than Eligna
  • Buyers who want a wider plank format without jumping to a thicker product
  • Open-plan homes where the floor is a major design element

Key specs

  • Thickness: 8mm  Â·  Wear rating: AC4  Â·  Warranty: 25 years residential
  • Wider plank format  Â·  HydroSeal water resistance
  • Embossed-in-register surface texture for a realistic timber feel
Price $50–$60 /m² supply

Quick-Step Impressive Ultra

Impressive Ultra takes everything Impressive does well and adds a thicker, more substantial 12mm board. This is where Quick-Step starts to compete visually and underfoot with engineered timber — heavier, quieter, deeper surface detail and noticeably more premium when walked on. If engineered timber stretched your budget, this is the closest a laminate gets in look, feel and underfoot quality.

Best for

  • Premium residential renovations where the floor feels as good as it looks
  • Open-plan living spaces where a thicker board reduces hollow sound
  • Buyers who want the look of premium engineered timber at a fraction of the cost
  • Homes where the floor sees heavier traffic and benefits from extra mass

Key specs

  • Thickness: 12mm  Â·  Wear rating: AC4  Â·  Warranty: 25 years residential
  • Wider plank format  Â·  HydroSeal water resistance
  • Pronounced surface texture (genuine groove edges)
  • Uniclic Multifit locking system
Price $55–$65 /m² supply

Quick-Step Majestic

Majestic is Quick-Step’s flagship laminate range. Wide, long planks (up to 2.05m), thicker construction, deeper textures and a wear layer rated for heavier use. It’s the closest a laminate gets to looking and feeling like engineered timber — for larger renovation projects where the floor is a major design element, this is the range to look at.

Best for

  • Premium residential renovations
  • Larger rooms where extra-long planks reduce visual joins
  • Homeowners who want the absolute best laminate has to offer
  • Spaces that want a high-end engineered-timber look without the timber price

Key specs

  • Thickness: 9.5mm  Â·  Wear rating: AC4–AC5  Â·  Warranty: 25 years residential
  • Extra-wide, extra-long planks (up to 2.05m long)
  • HydroSeal water resistance
  • Pronounced surface texture and bevelled edges
Price $60–$75 /m² supply

Quick-Step vs cheaper laminate brands

It’s fair to ask whether Quick-Step is worth the premium over budget laminate brands. Here’s the honest answer.

Where Quick-Step is genuinely better

  • Tighter, longer-lasting jointsThe Uniclic locking system is more reliable over time — cheap laminate often develops gaps after a few years.
  • Better, more stable decorMore consistent printing that resists UV fading longer.
  • AC4 across the rangeVersus AC3 on most budget options.
  • Real water-resistance treatmentHydroSeal edges are meaningfully different from untreated ones.
  • Longer warranty25 years, versus 10–15 on most budget brands.

Where the gap is smaller than you think

  • Looks, at arm’s lengthPremium budget laminate can look almost identical from standing height.
  • Underfoot feelSimilar across most quality 8mm laminates.
  • Low-traffic roomsIn bedrooms and formal living, the durability difference is harder to notice in normal use.
“Spend on Quick-Step for high-traffic, high-visibility rooms — kitchens, open-plan living, main living areas and hallways. Budget laminate is fine for bedrooms and studies. If you only buy one premium floor, make it the main living space.” — Get Floors Showroom Team

Installation notes

All Quick-Step ranges use the Uniclic locking system, which means click-lock installation with no glue, no nails and no specialised tools beyond a saw, a tapping block and an installation kit. A few specifics worth knowing for Quick-Step:

  1. Underlay required. Quick-Step does not have attached underlay (unlike many hybrid products). You’ll need to purchase a compatible underlay separately.
  2. Expansion gap. Leave 8–10mm around the perimeter of every room. Skipping this is the most common cause of installation failure.
  3. Acclimatisation. Leave the boxes flat in the room for 48 hours before installation so they adjust to your home’s temperature and humidity.
  4. Subfloor. Must be flat (within 3mm over a 2m straightedge), clean and dry. Lumpy subfloors cause clicking joints to fail.

If you’re confident with basic DIY, all Quick-Step ranges are within reach for a weekend installation. If you’d rather hire an installer, budget $25 to $45 per m² depending on your location.

Frequently asked questions

Is Quick-Step laminate waterproof?

No. Quick-Step laminate is water resistant thanks to the HydroSeal treatment on most ranges, but it is not waterproof. It can handle quick spills if cleaned up immediately, but should not be used in bathrooms, laundries, or any area with standing-water risk. For wet areas, hybrid flooring is the better choice.

What’s the difference between Impressive and Impressive Ultra?

Both are wider-plank ranges with the same HydroSeal water resistance, AC4 wear rating and Uniclic locking system. The key difference is thickness: Impressive is an 8mm board, while Impressive Ultra is a 12mm board. The thicker Ultra feels more substantial underfoot, sounds less hollow, and sits closer to engineered timber in look and feel. Choose Impressive for the wide-plank textured look at standard 8mm thickness; choose Impressive Ultra for a more premium underfoot experience and the thicker board.

How long does Quick-Step laminate last?

Quick-Step backs most ranges with a 25 year residential warranty. In practice, a well-installed and maintained Quick-Step floor will typically last 20 to 30 years before showing significant wear.

Can Quick-Step laminate be installed over tiles?

Yes, provided the tiled surface is flat (within 3mm over 2m), clean, and the grout lines are not deep. Wide or deep grout joints may require self-levelling compound first. Always use a quality underlay and maintain the required expansion gap around the perimeter.

Where is Quick-Step laminate made?

Quick-Step is manufactured in Belgium by Unilin, the company that invented click-lock laminate flooring. European manufacturing means tighter quality control compared to many lower-cost Asian-made alternatives.
